“Two larger than lifesize figures are locked in a mutually dependent struggle for survival. One figure hangs from a steel support whilst the other is pulling on the rope to create an equilibrium, holding the tension: a clash of titans where neither will yield”.

Apparently taking 10 years to make (1987-1997), this is a very striking work by Robert Bryce Muir. It arrived in Grizedale in 2006, having done a 10-year tour around Britain first… and is on long-term loan. Having caught the eye of Alexander McQueen, the piece led to a discussion with the artist that resulted in the design of ‘Angel of the Americans’ (2008), a figure installed in the Alexander McQueen boutique, Los Angeles.
